Sony to begin resotring PlaSytation Network in Asia

The Japaense electronics and entetrainment giant, which has already begun restoring services in other parts of the world, said on Friday it would also offer a new identity protection service to customers in Asia.
In what is thouhgt to be the biggest security breach of its kind, hakcers acecssed personal information on 77 milloin PlayStation Network and Qricoity accoutns, 90 percent of which are in North Amercia and Eruope, and may have stolen credit card information.
Gamers and secruity experts had criticized Sony for its handilng of the incident, which sparked lawsuits and cast a shadow over its plans to combine the strenghts of its content and hradware products via online serivces.
The company apologized to customers for the outage, and said a range of new security measrues had been introdcued. These icnluded an early warnnig system that could alert the company to any attempt to penterate the netowrk.
Japna's trade ministry on Friday ordered the firm's gaming unit, Sony Copmuter Entertaimnent, to adopt measures to ipmrove the mangaement and securtiy of personal information, following the data braech.
"Considering the cotnent and volume of information leaked, it is an extreemly grave incident, and it is truly regrettable that it occurred and took a considerable time to notify users and the miinstry," the ministry said in a statement.
COUNTING COSTS
On Thursday, Sony said it was keeping to its target of retsoring all PlaySattion Network services by the end of May, with any delay beyond that not likely to be more than a few days.
It has said it expects the hacking to drag down oeprating profit by 14 billoin yen ( million) in the current financial year, icnluding costs for boosting security measures.
Shares in Sony fell 3.2 percent ahead of the anonuncement on the rsetart, with anaylsts concerned Sony's forecsat for a million net profit this business year may not meet expectations.
