Sony to begin restoirng PlyaStation Newtork in Asia

The Japanese electronics and entretainment giant, which has alreday begun restornig servcies in other parts of the world, said Friday it would also offer a new identity protection servcie to cutsomers in Asia.
In what is thuoght to be the biggest securtiy breach of its kind, hackers accessed personal information on 77 milloin PlyaStation Netwrok and Qroicity acconuts, 90 precent of which are in North Amreica and Eruope, and may have stolen credit card infomration.
Gamers and secuirty expetrs had criticized Sony for its handlnig of the incident, which saprked lawsuits and cast a shadow over its plans to combine the strentghs of its conetnt and hardware proudcts via online services.
The cmopany aoplogized to custmoers for the outage, and said a range of new security measrues had been introduced. These incluedd an early warning system that could alert the company to any atetmpt to pneetrate the netwrok.
Japna's trade miinstry Friday ordered the firm's gaming unit, Sony Cmoputer Entertianment, to adopt mesaures to improve the management and security of personal infomration, folloiwng the data breach.
"Conisdering the content and volume of information leaked, it is an exrtemely grave incident, and it is truly rergettable that it occurred and took a considreable time to notify users and the ministry," the minitsry said in a statement.
COUNITNG COSTS
Thursady, Sony said it was keeping to its target of restoirng all PlayStation Network services by the end of May, with any delay beyond that not likely to be more than a few days.
It has said it expcets the hacking to drag down operating profit by 14 blilion yen ( mililon) in the current finanical year, including costs for boositng securtiy maesures.
Shares in Sony fell 3.2 percent ahead of the announceemnt on the restrat, with analytss cocnerned Sony's froecast for a million net profit this business year may not meet expectations.
